A (ff. 1r-232v) French Caroline rounded and vertical; Uncial a with back that is closed by the loop of the vowel; g with bow shaped like a hook, upper shafts of b and l slightly clubbed; lower shafts of f and s on the baseline. Customary use of Capital n, with first leg prolonged below the baseline. Greek characters are a mix of Greek and Latin scripts: alpha is realized like minuscule a; delta can be also traced like an Uncial d; csi is sloped; ypsilon has the shape of a cusp.

B (ff. 233r-234r) French Caroline, rounded and with a medium size: a in Uncial shape; g with a rounded bow; high ligatures for st and ct, but not closed by the horizontal trait of t. The Greek script mixes up Greek and Latin types: alpha and delta are almost always in Uncial forms of a and d; tall csi descends below the baseline.

C (ff. 234r-249v) French Caroline: C has a slender and pressed minuscule pretty quick: the back of a does not protrude further its loop; the descending trait of x goes below the baseline; high ligatures of ct, rt and st are closed by the horizontal stroke of t. NT is present within a word and at its end. The Greek script is neater than that one of the other copyist: particular traits are those one of delta in the majuscule Greek form; csi with pointed traits and ypsilon by two traits.

Provenance(s): France
Copied in France during the second half of the 9^th century, this manuscript was employed as a working specimen, as evidenced by the annotations left in the margins by the anonymous copyist C, who also completed the main text by adding the last part of the 18^th book. Some annotations of C have been referred with the environment of Lupus of Ferrières. We do not have further information about the history of this codex before its arrival in the library of Charles IX. The actual binding of the manuscript was realized in this period (ca. 1561). There are two stamps on folios 1r and 249v of the Bibliotheca Regia and the former signatures of the codex, namely 1340 and 5493.

Annotation(s):
Hand C: This copyist has thoroughly revised the manuscript from the beginning to the end adding several marginal annotations. In the previous bibliography he has been identified with two figures: Heiric of Auxerre and Lupus of Ferrières (recently he was also linked to Remigius of Auxerre). Unfortunately, paleographical evidence do not allow to confirm or refuse these suggestions. Among the numerous notes he left, the name of Lupus appears at ff. 60r (sed Lupus de suo istam glosam delevit) and 249v.Latin
