Vel. orth. 5, 5, 2 - 6, 7
5220Animadvertimus tamen quibus‹dam› partibus orationis
‘unguere’›. Itaque testis in utroque Vergilius qui ait:
quibusue
urg[u]entur poenis
sine ‘u’, item:
ungere tela manu ferrumque armare veneno.
‘eruo’ ‘erui’. At ‘ungo’ ‘unxi’ facit, quomodo ‘ping[u]o’ ‘pinxi’,
‘fingo’ ‘finxi’.
Vergilium:
10et pinguis unguine ceras;
et ‹in› consuetudine usurpatur ‘unguentum’.
3Idem accidit
et in ‘hircis’, quos antiqui ‘hirquos’ dicebant. Nam quamvis
nos in| ‘hircis’ ‘u’ littera‹m› non interponamus in hac
enuntiatione, tamen videmus remanere in derivatione nominis
‘a me’, deinde ‘ab illo’, deinde ‘abstulit’, deinde ‘aufert’, quod
in accepti[s] tabulis. Nam quotiens acceptam pecuniam referebant,
non dicebant ‘a Longo’, sed ‘af Longo’. Et ait religionem
hanc scribendi apud paucissimos remansisse saeculo suo. Antiquos
scimus et ‘abs te’ dixisse: nos contenti sumus ‘a te’ dicere.
nomina a consonante incipiunt[ur], ut ‘a Romulo’. Siquis itaque
5appellentis’, aliud verbi causa ‘pecuniam appellantis’. Videmus
‘pungit’ ‘appungit’. Sic in his partibus orationis quae incipiunt
10a littera ‘c’ non facile potest hac praepositione admota sonare ‘d’
littera.
At siquis
in his quaerat vocibus, quae incipiunt a littera ‘t’, merito indifferenter
scribuntur ‘attinet, attentus’ ‹et ‘adtinet›, adtentus’,
quoniam utralibet littera scripta eundem auribus sonum reddunt.
20Nec minus ea quae a ‘g’ littera incipiunt variant huius
praepositionis enuntiationem. Nam interdum elisa ‘d’ littera ‘g’
‘ascendo’. At ubicumque ‘t’ littera scribitur nec in unitatem
Persius:
at te nocturnis iuvat impallescere chartis.
‘adlabi’. ‘Abbi‹be›re’ etiam quidam geminata ‘b’| maluerunt et
dicere et scribere intermissa ‘d’. Et ‹in› hoc nullam differentiam
15putat esse Lucilius, qui ait:
‘abbi‹be›re’ non multum est ‘d’ siet an ‘b’.
20litteram interire, quotiens sequens vox incipit a consonante.
supra dixi, in eam litteram a qua sequens incipit ver‹b›um, ut
In hac tamen
15ipsa productio. Et quatenus incidimus in mentionem praepositionis
‘dis’, adnotabimus et illam plenam praescribi ceteris,
nisi his partibus orationis quae incipiunt a littera ‘m’, ut ‘dimovit’,
20Vergilius:
tua terris didita fama,
5aliter apud Lucilium legitur † in praepositionem †:
‘pelliciendo’ quod est ‘inducendo’ geminat ‘l’;
‘pellicere’ malunt quam ‘perlicere’. Unde et apud Vergilium non
aliter legimus ‘pellacis Ulixi’; et a ‘pelluendo’ ‘pe[r]luis’ et apud
antiquos τρισυλλάβως ‘pelluis’, quae nunc in synaeresi ‘pel[l]uis’
10dicitur.
